rooted aluminium columns with passive safety certificate

passive safety
ROSA’s aluminium columns and masts ensure a proper visibility and they guarantee safety on roads by creating conditions that minimize accident risks. In case a collision takes place anyway, another factor is important -passive safety of road constructions. Lighting columns must have the safety parameters which minimize effects of road accidents. Taking care of the driving safety conditions, all road equipment constructions, depending on the manner of a crash, should be made in such a way that they will bend or distract. Unfortunately, the aspect of passive safety is rarely taken into account.
ROSA company – as a producer of safety lighting columns - being aware of its responsibility, in order to minimize the hazards issuing from road accidents, has carried out the tests of the passive safety of its products. Collision tests were carried out by TUV Rheinland TNO - Automotive International B.V in Netherland, according to standard PN-EN 12767:2007 (Passive safety of support structures of road equipment).
Regulations define three construction categories in respect of the energy absorption degree:
HE - high level of energy absorption,
LE - low level of energy absorption,
NE – lack of energy absorption.
The standard distinguishes the degrees of passenger safety:
1,2,3 – the support constructions ensuring the safety increase,
4 – non-harmful support constructions.
A 12-metre grounded column MAL-12 with an arched extension was used for the tests. The additional systems of electric circuit breaks were adopted in the column. The experiment was done for the speeds of 35 km/h and 100 km/h. As a result of a crash at 100 km/h, the column was “cut off” and it did not impact the vehicle driving track. No column parts got into the vehicle cabin, the windscreen was not broken and the vehicle stayed on its wheels. Thanks to this, no strong g-load impacted the passengers and consequently there did not appear:
- any serious injuries of the vehicle passengers,
- car damages were minimised.
As the tests proved the measure of the vehicle passenger injury risks is satisfactorily low, so, consequently, safe.
Due to the test results, ROSA grounded aluminium columns were classified to the
passive safety category
100NE2
100 – test impact speed
NE – non-energy absorption construction
2 – vehicle passenger safety degree
Grounded aluminium columns with the passive safety of this class may be used in a road infrastructure, where the non-energy absorption factor is required for road constructions, e.g. motor ways, express ways, country roads. In this case, the vehicle, having crashed against the column, will continue driving at the same or a little slower speed, protecting the vehicle passengers from the collision results.
As one of the first lighting producers in the country, we may show the conformity certificate for the passive safety of aluminium poles. The certificate was issued by the certificating authority from Prague.
